Johnny Martinez Jr

Johnny Martinez, Jr. passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018, doing what he loved best: serving the people as Chief of Police of Todd Mission.
Johnny was born January 29, 1964 in Pleasanton, Texas to Eva Espinoza and Johnny Martinez Sr.. The second of seven children, Johnny grew up in Bryan playing golf, baseball, and softball. Golf remained a passion of his throughout his life. After graduating from Bryan High School, Johnny went on to graduate from the Texas A&M Police Academy in 1992.
Johnny devoted his life to serving others and was proud to “bleed blue.” He was an “old school” cop with a lot of stories to tell. Johnny spent his rookie years working at the Grimes County Sherriff’s office, and continued to work his way up until he became the Chief of Police of Todd Mission in 2015. He was a good man who hated to see bad things happen to good people. He made it his mission to see justice served. Throughout his work, he was able to keep a smile on his face and a good sense of humor. While serving in Todd Mission, he enjoyed working at the Texas Renaissance Festival. He served as part of the security team for several years until being made head of the team in 2015.
Johnny leaves behind his mother Eva Espinoza, his brothers Bobby Martinez and Randy Martinez, his sisters Brenda Martinez, Carol Rodriquez, Rachel Hernandez, and Diana Gill, his daughters Desiree Martinez and Mollie Martinez, his son Johnny Everett Martinez, his grandchildren Mikel Alexander Martinez-Corona, Ysabella Maria Corona, and Gabriel Alexander Corona, and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.
To honor the life of Chief Johnny Martinez, his family has planned a visitation at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan on Tuesday, January 30 from 6 to 8, with a Rosary to be said at 7. Johnny’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 31 at 11 AM. Monsignor John McCaffrey will officiate. Burial will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
To honor Johnny’s legacy, please bring mementos, notes, and photos that you would like to place inside his Life Chest to share with his family, with a reception to be held at the Elks Lodge in Bryan.
