Joey Derkowski, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend was born on August 15, 1963, in Fullerton, California. At the age of four, he and his family moved to Bryan, Texas, where he grew up and made a lasting impact on everyone he met. Joey passed away on May 29, 2024.
Joey was known for his loving and kind-hearted nature. He was always ready to lend a hand and went out of his way to support others. His generosity and loyalty made him a cherished friend to many. Joey had a passion for life that was evident in his many interests. He loved savoring a cold Miller Lite beer, cheering for Aggie and SFA football and baseball, and visiting casinos. Trips to Las Vegas and Disneyland were some of his favorite adventures, and he had a deep appreciation for classic country music.
In 1984, Joey met the love of his life, Anita, and their bond was unbreakable. Their marriage was filled with love and shared experiences, creating a beautiful life together. Joey worked as an Environmental Manager at Sanderson Farms for 19 years, dedicating himself to his work until his retirement in November 2023.
Joey was preceded in death by his father, Joe Derkowski, as well as his grandparents, uncles, and aunts. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by those who knew him. Joey is survived by his devoted wife, Anita, and his loving mother, Ann Derkowski. He also leaves behind his brothers Larry Derkowski and his wife Beverly, Bill Derkowski and his wife Mary, David Derkowski and his wife Mary, and his sister Toni McDowell. Joey's memory will live on through his daughter Wendi Kitchen and her husband Jason, and his adored grandchildren Isabel and Willow Kitchen. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sharon Rychetsky and her husband Ryan, loving godchildren, Ashley Barras and Brooks Derkowski, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
