Jerry Wienke passed peacefully on September 29, 2024, in College Station, Texas. Born on February 6, 1937, in Stamford, Texas, to Eloise Clare and Leslie Lee Wienke, Jerry graduated Petersburg High School in 1954, studied engineering at Texas A&M College class of ‘58, then transferred to Texas Tech College where he met the love of his life, Karen Kerr. They married March 7, 1959. He is quoted as saying, ”That was the smartest decision of my life,” next to accepting Jesus as his Savior. Blessed with 61 years of love raising their 3 children Julie, Lezli ‘89 and Brandon Wienke ‘94 (deceased).
After college, Jerry went into the family business with his father involving all things cotton: growing, ginning, compress storage and shipping. As years passed, Jerry’s entrepreneurial spirit found him farming, ranching, owning a trucking company, flying airplanes (he could have done all day long, every day for the rest of his life) manufacturing and running BBQ trailers, which spurred a love for cooking that continued for decades. His brisket was absolutely amazing!!
Jerry volunteered with multiple organizations throughout the years, with Lubbock Meals on Wheels being the one he was most proud of as he ensured fellow seniors received a hot meal with a smile, often a good handshake, gentle touch on the shoulder and often a prayer.
When asked if there was anything else Jerry still wanted to see or do, he told his family that the bucket of his bucket list was empty.
Jerry is survived by daughters, Julie and Lezli Wienke ‘89; granddaughter, Sierra Frasier, her daughter, Gabriella; grandson Ben Frasier, his wife, Allie, their children, Sydney, Silas and Sutton; sister, Joan Weaver and husband, Fred and their children and grandchildren and many more extended family members.
The family wishes to extend immense gratitude to the amazing hands-on Care Staff at Bluebonnet Court and to Luminos Hospice-College Station for their loving care and amazing attention to all of Jerry’s and the family’s needs.
As I leave you, I want to share the following beautiful and comforting message:
Today I'm home, with my Lord and loved ones. Who can grieve at such a glorious reunion?
I'll be waiting on the other side of the shadows, so 'til we meet again...
Farewell.
