Gladys Marie McCary, age 82, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 19, 2012. A time for the family to receive friends will be Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Hillier Funeral Home. Interment services will follow in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Gladys was born in Wheelock, Texas on June 18, 1929 to Lee and Marie (Sodek) Lys. She proudly served her country in the US Air Force during the Korean War and worked as a Registered Nurse for many years. She became a member of First Baptist Bryan after returning to Brazos Co. in 1998. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, E.W. McCary in 1996 and daughter, Taylor Lys McCary in 2004.
She leaves behind two sons: Bill McCary and wife Dixie of Medina, Ohio and their children, Eddie, Kelly, and Charlie; and Mark McCary and wife Mandy of Marble Falls, Texas and their children, Anne and Kate. Also surviving are her older sister, Elsie Jones of Greenville, Texas and younger brother, Robert Lys of Navasota, Texas.
The family requests donations be made in memory of Gladys to Brazos Valley Hospice Inpatient Facility, 502 W. 26th St. Bryan, TX 77803 or to First Baptist Church, 3100 Cambridge Dr, Bryan, TX 77802.
