Doris Hartsfield, 79, of Bryan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 20, 2022.
Doris was born on August 8, 1942, to her parents, Thomas “Tommy” Konecny and Clara Konecny, in Bryan, Texas. Growing up was all about family. She shared a birthday with her Granddaddy Merka, so she always got a bigger birthday party.
While in high school, she met the love of her life, Johnny Vernon Hartsfield. They met while Doris was playing a softball game and Johnny was the Umpire. He called her out and she was mad at him, guess she didn’t stay mad at him too long. They married her senior year of high school, and together they began a family and had two children, Dennis and Cindy. They spent 61 loving years together before Johnny went to Heaven.
Doris loved her family; family was her greatest passion. She loved making her daughter’s clothes when she was little. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, and loved to be together for family gatherings. The Merka family Reunion was a cherished memory of Doris’, along with all the family trips in the summer time. Her most cherished trip may have been the last one she made, when she went to South Carolina to see her great-granddaughters.
Doris was a loving, kind-hearted, and thoughtful person. She enjoyed watching the animals in the pastures, refurbishing old furniture became a hobby of hers, and going to the casino was always fun for Doris too! Doris always had a love for the game of softball and enjoyed bowling too.
Doris’ smile was absolutely beautiful, and her laughter was contagious. She had a wittiness about her that kept you on your toes. She had a kind soul, and was always there to help anyone. She taught her family, children, and grandchildren how to be the kind of person someone could look up to and trust.
Doris is reunited with her husband, Johnny Vernon Hartsfield; and her father, Thomas “Tommy” Konecny.
Doris will be missed by her children, Dennis Hartsfield and wife Eloisa, and Cindy Moore and husband Lenney; her mother, Clara Konecny; siblings, Barbara Drews, and Shirley Sodolak; her grandchildren she adored so much, Nathan Hartsfield, Kaycee Sims and husband Drew, Chelsea Davis, Tucker Moore, and Heather Shaffer and spouse Nisa; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Amelia Bree Sims, Oaklee Faith Sims, Lindsay Grace Shaffer, and Riley Jack Shaffer.
In lieu of flowers and plants, please make a memorial contribution to Brazos Valley Hospice or St. Jude’s.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12 pm, on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Hillier of BRYAN. Graveside services will follow at Smetana Cemetery.
I love you, 249!
